Happy Christmas & New Year Sale!

What a great Christmas was had by all.
Christmas eve was “Jesus’s Birthday Bash”, a service for children at St Thomas, which was really fun, with water pistols, sweats and cool music. The best but of it all was that myself and the band did requests of christmas songs for half and hour before hand. Then the 5:00pm candlelight service was excellent. I think it always makes you think a little about what Christmas is all about.
I got some lovely presents. This year I decided to let people give to charity, buying presents for others. There are plently of great places on the web you can do this such as www.oxfamunwrapped.com, www.presentaid.org and www.greatgifts.org. I got,

  • Immunise a Child from my own child!
  • Hand pupets for children in an orphanage
  • Blankets for 10 babies in disaster situations
  • A goat!
  • Computer training for a third world person
  • Safe drinking water
  • 100 school diners

I think that my fave one of all, was a guide dog puppy which Emma sponsered for me. It is called Isobell, and you get a picture of the puppy and loads of information about it. Then you get “pupdates” to tell you how it is doing in it’s training. I really hope it does well, although she looked a bit fat! I will try and scan a picture so you can see her, she is adorable. You can find out more at http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/

We also decided to have our own post Christmas sale, in order to help our finances (which are not too hot). So get your ebay finger a wagging, and click this.

Still no internet…

Still internetless (if thats a word!).
Will update when I have connectivity.
I also made up a new word which is a “stupidiot” (stew – pid – e – ot). It’s a cross between silly , stupid and idiot!
Can anyone tell me what the word is for when you do that kind of thing (joining words together)
I know it has something to do with “ism” but dont know what.

Internet Down

The internet has been unavailable at the dixon household since Friday! This is becuase the supposed zero downtime method of changing ISP’s turns out to be a very much downtime option. However after being on hold for forty minutes I finally spoke to a human and I think the problem may now be resolved. Thus standby for details on my latest project soon….

New Car.

Did I mention about my ace new car? It’s from the Abrols which is nice becuase it’s kind of a connection with them.
Now it’s been washed it looks lovely and sparkly. It features a 1.9 Tdi engine and 55mgp fuel economy. I am loving being able to overtake once again, and also not getting my knee bashed on all the knobs and switches of the renault.
Here is a pic.

James is the man

James had his 1st birthday on 5th December. It doesnt seem a minute since he was being born (well, OK it’s a bit longer than a minute, but you get the idea) Fatherhood has come good, after a difficult initial three months, and now James is doing great.
He is walking well, and can now zoom about all the rooms and bring you things (sometimes useful, but more training needed).
Emma is back at work and he has settled into pre-school really well. He doesnt like to go to sleep which is the only issue, as he eventually gets too tired and falls asleep on his worker.
Here is a pick of James enjoying his birthday (larger version available in the gallery)
Must post about my new car soon, it’s really cool!

L8R Abrols

A sad (but also excited) goodby was shared to Robin and the Abrol family, as they move to Canada on Thursday. It’s really exciting for them, and God is going to do some really great stuff over there. I was a bit emmotional to say goodbye to Robin as he has been a great friend, especially over the last year or so, and we have been able to share a lot of stuff. Anyhow, we will still keep in contact, thanks to the wonder of our old friend the internet, especially sipgate.
I hope we will be able to go and visit ASAP, although we may need a financial recovery first. It’s quite alarming that however much money comes in, it all seems to dissapear. I am so bad at budgeting anything.
Anyway… All the best to the Abrols, our thoughts and prayers are with you (and those who will recieve you ;-) )

Job Details..

Well, as I write I am slowly sinking in a deluge of emails. This is going to be par for the course for my new role.
For those who don’t know the university, I am basically managing the helpdesk (frontline support) and technicians in both the library and the management school. This is quite a job in itself, but also I will be managing projects from the department’s perspective and being the major point of contact for issues from the user base.
I’m actually quite excited, but a little worried about the workload. I think a key to success is going to be organising my time as well as possible to ensure that I can keep track of all the different things going on, whilst not dropping the ball on any of them! (on the subject of dropping the ball, someone sent me an amazing juggling video, must post it!, also must load some video of my juggling antics… anyhow)
I came across this book a while back, which I 1/2 implemented, and I was thinking it might be time to take another look at it.
Also I grabbed some management books, which I can wade (or skim ;-) during the festive season.

I’m sure I will start out with good intentions and then get dragged under, but at least I’m starting with good intentions…
