spam update

It seems that perhaps things are having an effect! The last two days have registered only 80 and 44 spams each. I know that statistically it’s probabbly too early to tell but I’m happy :-)

update…

well, 134 messages the last 2 days, but I did find that the whois database for chrisdixon.net listed my address, so I have removed that. Apparently it can take about 3 months to see any improvement in levels of spam, so will have to wait!

Progress

130 messages recieved yesterday, so no improvment yet. But it’s early days.

Bye Bye SPAM?

OK. Tonight I have done the following.

1) Removed things that should not have been there from windows firewall.

2) Run Ad-Aware

3) Run Windows Defender (Beta)

Note: loads of good links to free software are available here: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm#3

The results were that Ad-Aware found 4 critical objects (now removed)

However windows defender did better and found 8 nasties (also removed) We will see what happens in the next few days!

Fight against SPAM

Right, I’ve had enough. I’m averaging about 120 spam messages a day!
Now the good news is that I have a good client that filters out a lot of rubish. However upwards of 100 junk messages a day is stupid. From now on I’m going to activley try to reduce them and see if I can get this trend going downwards. I suspect that the more messages are recieved when my computer has been on for a long time period, so tonight a sweep with anti spyware utils is in order. We will then see if that causes a reduction. If anyone has any more good ideas then let me know and I will try them. Watch this space….. Grrrrrrr..
